Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin

Cats In The Cradle-Harry Chapin My child arrived just the other day He came to the world in the usual way But there were planes to catch and bills to pay He learned to walk while I was away And he was talkin’ ‘fore I knew it, and as he grew He’d say «I’m gonna be like you dad You know I’m gonna be like you» And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin’ home dad? I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son You know we’ll have a good time then My son turned ten just the other day He said, «Thanks for the ball, Dad, come on let’s play Can you teach me to throw», I said «Not today I got a lot to do», he said, «That’s ok» And he walked away but his smile never dimmed And said, «I’m gonna be like him, yeah You know I’m gonna be like him» And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin’ home son? I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son You know we’ll have a good time then Well, he came home from college just the other day So much like a man I just had to say «Son, I’m proud of you, can you sit for a while?» He shook his head and said with a smile «What I’d really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys See you later, can I have them please?» And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon Little boy blue and the man on the moon When you comin’ home son? I don’t know when, but we’ll get together then son You know we’ll have a good time then I’ve long

Is it just me, but at 2:40, if you listen really hard, you can hear the faintest sound of skype beeping?

I Love my dad so much, and my mom. He works out of state and i only get to see him a day and a half a week. This song made me realize that ive spent way to much time wanting things for myself, and not enough just trying to be with him, and the rest of my family.

This reminds me of my dad and I. when I was a kid he worked all-the-time. I always wanted to be like him, not we work together and all our co-workers and my mom say we are so similar its creepy.

    I LOVE MY DAD!

This song always makes me cry because my mom over dosed on drugs when I was 9 and I don’t appreciate him enough and I want to tell everyone that you or your parents can die any time so spend every minute with them well because you don’t know when it will be your last

@kikomiko1 Unless you are working a day shift and a night shift for minimum wage, pretty much any job, especially one that has «planes to catch» would allow you enough down time to say, watch a movie with your family on a saturday night.

The point of the song isn’t to say «fuck the guy who is working hard» it is to show how the kid looks up to his dad and says he wants to be like him, and he does, but the dad doesn’t realize how terrible that is until he is old and retired.

I’m 17, I haven’t spoken to my dad in 2 years. I managed to hold it together until the last verse.

I’m glad that my dad and I are best buds… I don’t know what it’s like not having him around… This is one of my favourite song, it makes me so proud of him, for being the best when I was a kid and now I try to be the best daughter so he can do proud.
